Reclaim the Space: A community healing and family event

Boorloo Aboriginal Alliance invites community to Reclaim the Space

  • A community-led healing event will be held in Boorloo/Perth on Sunday 29 March 2026

  • Reclaim the Space will bring together community, families, and supporters in culture, healing, and unity

Boorloo Aboriginal Alliance is proud to present Reclaim the Space – a community-led healing event on Noongar Boodja for community and family.

Reclaim the Space is an opportunity for Aboriginal people and the wider community to come together in strength, culture, and solidarity. The event will include a Welcome to Country, smoking ceremony, cultural activities, and community-led reflections on healing and togetherness.

Reclaim the Space has been organised in response to the alleged terror attack during a peaceful protest in January 2026 to support healing and restore community confidence in our public spaces.

The event will be held at Forrest Place in Boorloo/Perth on Sunday, 29 March 2026, with activity commencing at 11:00am.

The Boorloo Aboriginal Alliance includes representatives from South West Aboriginal Land and Sea Council, Yokai – Healing Our Spirit, Derbarl Yerrigan Health Service, Whadjuk Aboriginal Corporation, Moorditj Koort Aboriginal Corporation, Aboriginal Legal Service of Western Australia, and Kuditj Pty Ltd.

Reclaim the Space is supported by the Department of the Premier and Cabinet, National Indigenous Australians Agency, and City of Perth.

Comments attributed to Invasion Day rally organiser, Fabian Yarran:
“The Invasion Day rally has left our mob with deep wounds that will take a long time to heal. We came together peacefully to speak up for our rights, and we were met with violence and confusion.

Our right to protest on our own Country is sacred, and no act of violence will ever take that from us.

To everyone who felt that fear in January – please join us on Sunday. Come and heal with us to show that we are still here, standing strong on our Boodja."

Comments attributed to Megan Krakouer:
"What happened in January was an attack on our people and on our right to exist safely in public spaces on Noongar Boodja.

Reclaim the Space is a statement of our survival and that strength. We will gather, we will heal, and we will rise.

We invite all mob and allies to stand with us and reclaim this space with strength and pride.”

Comments attributed to Jamie Jackson:
"The safety of our community is not negotiable. We stand firmly with our community in demanding that Aboriginal people can move freely, gather peacefully, and feel safe on Country.

Reclaim the Space is an act of collective healing, and we are proud to stand alongside every person who walks through Forrest Place with us on Sunday."

Boorloo Aboriginal Alliance encourages all community members, families, and supporters to attend.
