A terror attack on our community

Our mob is hurting. Our people have the right to protest and speak truthfully without intimidation or violence.

The shocking act of hate against our community at last week’s Invasion Day rally in Boorloo/ Perth has now been classified as an act of terror.

This positive finding validates the fear and distress that our Noongar members, our allies, and the broader community on Noongar Boodja at this peaceful rally are experiencing.

Our Noongar Nation is strong, and there is absolutely no place for racism in our community.

South West Aboriginal Land and Sea Council has been in consultation with WA Police, state government representatives, and Aboriginal leaders to share our deep concerns and work together to ensure the safety of our community.

During these ongoing discussions Aboriginal leaders highlighted important key actions including additional protection for Aboriginal communities, more support for Aboriginal-led initiatives that enhance community safety and cohesion, and an Aboriginal-led truth, healing and justice process.

We are one community, Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal, and as proud Western Australians, we must all stand together against racism and violence in all its forms.
