The Australian Bureau of Statistics is recruiting for Indigenous State Managers (APS 6) to support the 2026 Census Inclusive Strategy. Roles commence in September 2025.
The Indigenous State Managers will play a vital leadership role in delivering the 2026 Census Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples in Urban and Regional Areas Inclusive Strategy across states and territories. Working in close partnership with internal Census teams and external stakeholders, the role aims to build trust and ensure a safe, inclusive, and positive Census experience for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
Service delivery includes stakeholder engagement, recruitment and training of temporary staff, promoting Census participation, and leading a small team to coordinate Census-related activities in urban and regional Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
It’s a full-time role, available across various state and territory locations. The annual salary range is $95,000 to $108,000 (APS 6), plus superannuation.
Aboriginality or Torres Strait Islander heritage is considered essential for this position under the Affirmative Measure guidelines.
