A Noongar advocate to take the lead

The South West Aboriginal Land and Sea Council (SWALSC) warmly welcomes Noongar woman, Megan Krakouer, as its new Chair.

Megan is a proud Noongar Menang woman with a degree in law and a strong background in advocating for the rights of our First Nations people. Megan has spent her career working in the Indigenous sector across Australia. She dedicates most of her time leading the National Suicide Prevention and Trauma Recovery Project.

Megan is highly regarded within the First Nations and Noongar communities, with accolades including the 2023 Perth Community Citizen of the Year, and the Dr Yunupingu Award for Human Rights at the National Indigenous Human Rights Awards in 2018.

The SWALSC Board thanks Noel Morich for his exemplary contributions during his time in the role, and wishes him well in his new appointment.

Megan Krakouer, the new Chair, said “My Noongar community is beyond important to me. I’m proud and humbled to take on this critical role, because a strong, healthy, and empowered Noongar Nation, where all community voices are heard, is something I’ve always deeply wanted for my community. A multitude of voices, and layers of transformations.”

SWALSC Chief Executive Officer, Vanessa Kickett, said “Megan Krakouer is a well-known and passionate advocate for the Noongar community. We look forward to working with Megan, as we know she will be an inspirational leader for the team at SWALSC.”
