Gnaala Karla Booja Aboriginal Corporation: By-Election Notice

Nominations are called from eligible candidates for the by-election of a Gnaala Karla Booja Aboriginal Corporation Director, due to the resignation of a current Director. Nominations will open on Wednesday 3 May 2023.

The term of office for the successful candidate will be until the Annual General Meeting of the Corporation in late 2024.

Candidates must be a member of the Gnaala Karla Booja Aboriginal Corporation at the close of the member roll on May 3 2023.

New Membership applications will be accepted by Friday 28 April and will need to be approved at the next membership meeting on Tuesday 2 May 2023 to be eligible as a member to vote or nominate as a candidate in the by-election.

Nominations will open on Wednesday 3 May 2023, and interested candidates must submit their completed Nominations Pack to the Returning Officer by post or email by 12noon on Wednesday 24 May 2023.

National Police Certificate

Candidate nominations must include an acceptable National Police Certificate (NPC) which is no more than 12 months old at the time of close of nominations. Acceptable NPCs are issued by the WA Police (or other applicable state police) and can take 2-3 weeks from application. The Returning Officer will undertake a preliminary check on completeness of the potential candidates’ information and will then forward all nominations to the Nominations Committee (as set out in the Noongar Boodja Trust Deed), who will undertake a vetting process against the eligibility criteria for Member Elected Directors as outlined in the Gnaala Karla Booja Aboriginal Corporation Rule Book.

Ballot and voting

If more than one eligible nomination is received and cleared by the Nominations Committee, an election will take place. The ballot for the election will open on Wednesday 14 June 2023 and close on Wednesday 12 July 2023, with the count occurring on Wednesday 19 July 2023. All eligible votes will be counted, and the election results declared on that day.
