Aboriginal Rangers Program: Policy and Projects Officer

The Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions is seeking applications for a Policy and Projects Officer in the Aboriginal Rangers Program.

This role assists in implementing the Western Australian Government’s $50 million Aboriginal Ranger Program (ARP) by working cooperatively with the ARP team, ARP reference group, government departments and the broader stakeholder network operating in the Aboriginal ranger sector to identify and support development of pilot projects and partnerships for the ARP Innovation Fund. This will include facilitating partnerships with government and the private sector which encourage ranger career opportunities, and support pathways towards business maturity.

As part of the ARP team, assists with funding contract development and oversight, and the development of processes and review of outcomes to improve the delivery of the ARP.

This is a 24 month full time position, based in Kensington.

Managing World Heritage: People Nature Culture

The Department of Agriculture, Water and the Environment is seeking expressions of interest from site coordinators, members of management teams and institutions, and heritage practitioners working with World Heritage properties to attend the international course on Managing World Heritage: People Nature Culture (PNC22).

 The candidate

The department is seeking applications from Indigenous Australians working at a cultural and/or natural World Heritage property to attend the course, held by the International Centre for the Study of the Preservation and Restoration of Cultural Property (ICCROM) in the Republic of Korea from 1 to 12 August 2022.

 The opportunity

The International Centre for the Study of the Preservation and Restoration of Cultural Property (ICCROM) is seeking 20 participants from around the world to take part in the international course on Managing World Heritage: People Nature Culture (PNC22) in the Republic of Korea from 1 to 12 August 2022. ICCROM is one of the 3 technical advisory bodies to the UNESCO World Heritage Committee, with a focus on training.

 PNC22 promotes a ‘heritage place approach’ to heritage management focused on understanding how to conserve and enhance the multiple heritage values of heritage places in their wider social, environmental, and economic contexts.

Opportunities for First Nations young people

Two opportunities for First Nations young people are now open for applications.

Our Truth, Our Way IndigenousX Internship (ages 18-35)

The Our Truth, Our Way project is all about platforming the voices and truthtelling of First Nations young people to transform the future. The internship will span 12 months and provide a paid opportunity for young First Nations creatives to take the lead in innovative, creative and collaborative storytelling, to develop their work and critical thinking skills, build networks and collaborate with First Nations industry professionals.

Up to eight young First Nations creatives from across the country will have the opportunity to share their work across IndigenousX platforms and beyond

The program is run in partnership between Aboriginal independent media organisation IndigenousX and The Foundation for Young Australian’s (FYA) First Nations team, as part of FYA’s First Nations strategy

Internship begins July 2022

Collective Imagining (ages 16-25)

Over the next 24 months, the Foundation for Young Australians (FYA) will be backing 50 young dreamers to launch a new multi-issue youth movement. Their plan is to train and organise this group of 50 young people to engage 1,000 young people in creative processes of collectively imagining a different future. FYA will then back these young people with grants and coaching to run campaigns that bring the vision to life. 

The program has a focus on First Nations creatives, knowledge and values. Trainers include deadly Larrakia, Kungarakan, Gurindji poet and writer Laniyuk, Gomeroi journalist Madeline Hayman-Reber and Gamilaraay, Dunghutti and Gumbaynggirr hip hop artist Johnathan Binge. 

Folks with diverse lived experiences of systemic injustice are invited to apply: First Nations young people, migrants of colour and refugees, disabled, LGBTQIA+, young parents, young people who have been impacted by the justice system and working class young people.
